Vampiric Eyes

The Vampiric eye is a physical feature not often mentioned in human lore, but one worth a few moments discussion. Strangely enough, this obscure object is one of the few things that horrible Meyers woman got right in her fetid book. Luck, I imagine, I can’t believe she’d be able to find such information through any human means, and she certainly can’t have ever met a real vampire. Not yet, anyway. She shall pay for her crimes against my race, as soon as the opportunity arises.
Because of the dramatic DNA transfiguration, our physical forms change just as dramatically during transformation. However, the transfer of DNA through our venom can be corrupted quite easily, as it is such a messy process. Consequently, it is not abnormal for a vampire to have genetic anomalies that result in unusual physical traits. The physical features most susceptible to corruption are the eyes, hair, and skin color (Pro-Tip: Although I once met a vampire with spots that started at his heel and spread all the way up into his…the point is it was an extensive and unfortunate coloring pattern).
Accordingly, you will see many vampires with a wider range of eye coloring than most humans. In rare cases, their colors will change post-transformation, resulting in a new eye color every several weeks. As you can imagine, this can create a danger for us when among humans. While you are powerless to harm our persons, it is entirely possible to destroy our reputation and our belongings. This sort of “burn down his brand new manor-house with exquisite Victorian furniture and several priceless original paintings” mentality has led to some pretty vicious bloodshed, and more than one vampire has been forced to move temporarily to Argentina to lay low (Pro-Tip: I swear, those paintings were revolutionary in the art field; I would have been a household name for centuries to come. You uncultured swine). Really, it is better for everyone if we remain undetected.
Usually, we wear sunglasses, if our eyes have a habit of changing on us. This helps keep suspicion off of individuals, and therefore, our race as a whole. Regardless of how humans react to it, constantly changing eyes are very stylish, and vampires that have them are used as spokesmen and diplomats; poster boys in effect. Some vampires claim they can even control the change, but I personally believe that to be a load of hog wash. I can’t change my eye color, although sometimes I think my right eye is veering to green. Probably just wishful thinking. Evangeline’s eyes aren't really gray, not on closer inspection. They’re more like a washed out shade of blue: a stormy ocean with flecks of darker hues around the pupil that are perfect for losing yourself in…

Ahem. Anyway, the point is that if your friend’s eyes change color overnight; you should have your bags packed and be halfway to the closest border within six hours. I would suggest moving to another country to lay low for a few years. Argentina is very useful for that, and the people are actually quite lovely. Not that I know from personal experience (Pro-Tip: Never mind Van Gogh, I was going to be a star! My fortune was made, humans would flock to me for teaching, and I would eat them one by one. Life would have been perfect. Oh, but my revenge was swift and hard. You can still hear the screams in the wind, if you’re in the dungeon I keep the last of them in).
